Year 5/6 Orientation Day
On the 2nd of March 2016, a warm Thursday afternoon saw off the beginning of the year 5/6 parent information evening regarding the introduction of future attendees at Fairvale High school. With the gates open and parents settled down, a presentation given by Mr Freeney and Mr Micallef and the opening address by one of the school’s executives, Mr Newby; the tour soon began. The tour consisted of the members of the Student Representative Council leading small groups of parents and children, divided into groups via colour coordination. Colours ranging anywhere from typical green to a more abstract ‘light’ cyan. Slowly the groups trickled out into the school blocks, exploring numerous faculties and facilities available, from the nondescript staff rooms to the ever so excitable classrooms. Along the way, parents would enquire regarding student welfare, study schedules and any available courses in the school curriculum, some even surprised to hear Spanish and French language studies were available. The parents were treated to a number of various snippets of what would await the world of secondary education for children at Fairvale High and the variety of subjects taught, from the mind and body from the PDHPE faculty to the dusty tomes of Ancient History, parents were delighted to learn of the diverse curriculum. To end the tour, the parents were dropped off at the Foley centre in order to learn of the future ‘gift and talented’ classes available and the so the SRC’s duties ended. It was such a great effort from everyone so thank you all.
