"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them."
(Laurence Binyon, 1914)
On Friday the 11th of November, several SRC members attended Remembrance Day services at different RSLs in the local area. This was the day when the Armistice went into full effect and the guns fell silent on the Western Front after four long years of continuous warfare in 1918.
Remembrance Day used to be the day to commemorate those that were slain in the First World War, but now, it is the day to remember all sacrifices, past or present, regardless the battle.
We stood in a respectful minute of silence at the eleventh hour of the day.
Then, the ceremony went on, filled with words of wisdom and hymns. The SRC members, on behalf of the school, laid a wreath in respect for those that lost their lives to defend the country we are living in today.
Lest we forget.
