International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March across the world. It is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future. It is an occasion for looking back on past struggles and accomplishments, and more importantly, for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.
Our school celebrated this day to support parity between men and women. This refers to the genders receiving equal pay for equal amounts of work, an issue currently facing Australian society. The Student Representative Council decorated the canteen with purple balloons and ribbons in correlation with colours of United Nations: Women organisation. We invited all students and staff to show their support by being photographed making various pledges. It was a huge success as we received a large response from the school so thank you to everyone who helped make this day happen!
