In the fight against cancer, a small group of year 12 students participated in Fairfield’s Relay for Life. This was a 24-hour community event organised by the Cancer Council to raise funds for cancer research and to honour cancer patients, survivors and carers while also raising the awareness of the effects of cancer towards the broader populace. Fairvale representatives named the ‘Fairvale Fairies’ were headed by I, Patrick Young as Team Captain, and were able to raise over $1600 in funds towards the research, prevention, treatment and support of individuals affected by cancer.
As Fairvale’s team members walked the course of the event, along with many other members of the community, humanity’s solidarity and strength was displayed as they united to aid in the campaign of defeating cancer. Candles, moving songs and memorials were held over the course of the event to mourn those lost to cancer as well as those who have survived. By participating in such a meaningful event, I hope to further Fairvale High School’s presence in engaging and contributing to the community.
Many thanks to the enormous support of team members, teachers, community and friends, the team’s success would not have been possible without them.
