Social Sciences: Year 7 to 10
- Courses (Junior School)
In Years 7 -10, all students undertake the mandatory Geography course to learn about the world in which we live and the major issues facing this world. The focus in Years 7 and 8 is Global Geography, where students complete the following units:
- Investigating the World
- Global Environments
- Global Change
- Global Issues and the Role of Citizenship
In Years 9 and 10 the focus is Australian Geography, where students complete the following units:
- Investigating Australia’s Physical Environments
- Changing Australian Communities
- Issues in Australian Environments
- Australia in its Regional and Global Contexts
Throughout Stages 4 and 5 Geography, students will be encouraged to develop the skills to become an informed and active citizen with an ability to investigate the world through the use of ICT and geographical tools.
In Years 9 and 10, students are given the opportunity to study Commerce and International Studies as elective subjects. Commerce provides students with the knowledge, skills, understanding and values that form the foundation to make informed decisions on consumer, financial, business, legal and employment issues. International Studies equips students with the capacity to engage with cultures within Australia and around the world. It assists students to develop values and a commitment to responsible action for a cohesive and just society. |
